The 2014 New York fall theater season will resemble a master class of stars, with notable names returning to the stage and others making their Broadway debuts. Among the veterans coming back are Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Glenn Close, John Lithgow and Hugh Jackman. The freshman class is a diverse crowd including Ewan McGregor, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rupert Grint, Michael Cera and Kieran Culkin. Plays also rule the boards this season, from a revival of the classic You Can’t Take It With You to the Broadway premiere of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on the bestselling novel. There are two musical revivals (On the Town and Side Show) and one new musical (Sting’s The Last Ship) on the schedule. Here is a list of shows that should be on your radar as the new Broadway season gets underway. Just don’t hesitate — many shows are being presented as limited runs. Tickets are now available for many shows, but check back as the opening nights get closer.
